One great thing about living in Portland is the fact that getting away from the city is really easy. This summer we found one of our favorite new places to walk Gertie and it's a short jaunt from where we live.



But Macleay Park is more than just a great place to get away from it all, like everything else in Portland, it bears signs of the city's turbulent past. (Read More)

We hit the roller rink at Oaks Park to relive the glory days of the elementary school skate party. Fortunately, any fears of wood flooring and bare flesh making contact were quickly assuaged upon making our first loop of the rink. Can you use assuaged in an entry about the roller rink? The first warm day in months brought Bear, Gertie, and I to the Columbia River Gorge. For those of you who aren't familiar with the Pacific Northwest, the Columbia River Gorge is like only the raddest river gorge ever...seriously, it's pretty cool. (Read More)

Portland, Oregon is widely known for its expansive parks and outdoor playgrounds, but did you know it's also home to the world's smallest park? Come along as we visit Mill Ends Park. (Read More)

We headed to Florence, Oregon to go visit the famous Sea Lion Caves and found that the town of Florence has some very interesting places. I still haven't figured it out, but the caves were pretty neat. (Read More)

Let's keep this party going as we venture from the midway at Oaks Park to the rides. The big slide, the dark ride, and some really old fashioned bumper cars make Oaks Park a great way to spend an afternoon. (Read More)

Camping is a favorite summer time activity for Bear and me. There's nothing like getting away to the outdoors after fattening it up at my desk for a week, so we were really excited to take our first camping trip this summer.

It's also the first camping trip we've had since we moved back to the northwest and we went with friends who had never camped before, so there was a lot riding on this trip. We chose to drive up to Cape Disappointment which is right on the other side of the Columbia river from Astoria. (Read More)
