One great thing about living in Portland is the fact that getting away from the city is really easy. This summer we found one of our favorite new places to walk Gertie and it's a short jaunt from where we live.

We hit the roller rink at Oaks Park to relive the glory days of the elementary school skate party. Fortunately, any fears of wood flooring and bare flesh making contact were quickly assuaged upon making our first loop of the rink. Can you use assuaged in an entry about the roller rink? We headed to Florence, Oregon to go visit the famous Sea Lion Caves and found that the town of Florence has some very interesting places. I still haven't figured it out, but the caves were pretty neat. (

Camping is a favorite summer time activity for Bear and me. There's nothing like getting away to the outdoors after fattening it up at my desk for a week, so we were really excited to take our first camping trip this summer.
It's also the first camping trip we've had since we moved back to the northwest and we went with friends who had never camped before, so there was a lot riding on this trip. We chose to drive up to Cape Disappointment which is right on the other side of the Columbia river from Astoria. (
